After squandering his family's fortune in gambling dens and brothels, the young, deeply penitent Fugui settles down to do the honest work of a farmer. Forced by the Nationalist Army to leave behind his family, he witnesses the horrors and privations of the Civil War, only to return years later to face a string of hardships brought on by the ravages of the Cultural Revolution. Left with an ox as the companion of his final years, Fugui stands as a model of gritty authenticity, buoyed by his appreciation for life in this narrative of humbling power.

Though little more than a settlement surrounded by mountains, Macondo has its wars and disasters, even its wonders and its miracles. A microcosm of Columbian life, its secrets lie hidden, encoded in a book, and only Aureliano Buendía can fathom its mysteries and reveal its shrouded destiny. Blending political reality with magic realism, fantasy and comic invention.

Moments We Shared describes the seasons of a little town as well as the people who live in it. Every meeting and parting. The whole town has blooming platycodon all over it and the dandelion flies higher than the pomegranate tree, floating to the field at the foot of the mountain. For most people, their hometown will finally become a dot, as an unchanging isolated island. As grandma puts it, hometown is called hometown, because we are all buried here from generation to generation.

Street Wizards is a collection of 14 new folklores, including Wedding Banquet by Wang Anyi, Three Fiddle Tales by Huang Jianhua, Mystique in White by Wu Xuan, Street Wizards by Feng Jicai and River Lanterns by Ah Cheng. All of the selected stories center on commonplace subjects, but are expressed through discoveries of spectacle and wonder. The highbrow arts of music, Chinese chess, calligraphy and painting, along with the more lowbrow or popular crafts of mending bowls with clamps, repairing paper fans and papercutting are equal in terms of being quintessential folk arts and traditions. Folkways ultimately have no differentiation between high or low, art or craft, urban or rural. Social conventions and domestic arts, including even things as trivial as chicken feathers and garlic skins are all embodiments of folkways.
